I am working to create the work-life that I want to live. I want to work in a pleasant environment, where people are confident, motivated, happily and fully engaged in their work, love and respect one another, and are working cooperatively toward a common goal.
There are big, visionary communications and there are equally important little communications. You are responsible for communicating both. Does your team know what you want? Did you tell them? Do you know what your team members want? Did you speak with each one and they told you?
Little communications - I have actually said the following things to my team members:
I want you to not simply work together, I want you to learn to respect and love one another.
We are gathered here to make money. Seek every opportunity today to do so and later tell me all about it.
Do not wear that shirt in here again. I want to work in a place where people are well groomed and professional looking. That shirt is not doing it for me.
Let's all be heroes. Today I'm asking that each of us work at our personal best. We'll compare notes during tomorrow's meeting.
